Hi there, I'm Tantenisha!

I am a Licensed Mental Health Therapist and Substance Abuse Counselor, having earned my Master's Degree from Pace University. With experience working with individuals facing challenges such as negative self-talk, low self-esteem, mood instability, substance use, irrational beliefs, anxiety, trauma, and identity development, I am dedicated to helping clients achieve their goals and foster personal growth.

My approach

My approach to therapy emphasizes collaboration and building a strong Therapeutic Alliance based on trust. This allows for deeper therapeutic work to occur, enabling individuals to effectively reach their goals. I prioritize your needs and goals above my own values and morals, focusing solely on helping you address the issues that are preventing you from achieving the changes you desire.

My focus

I work with individuals, couples, families, and minors (ages 13-17) who are struggling with a wide range of issues, including addiction, alcohol use, anger management, anxiety, behavioral issues, bipolar disorder, adoption, child abuse or neglect, drug abuse, dual diagnosis, family conflict, impulsivity, panic attacks, sexual abuse, women's issues, thought disorders, and LGBTQIA+ related concerns.

My communication style

Our therapeutic relationship will be built on open communication, empathy, and understanding. I will support you in celebrating your milestones and help you learn from any setbacks or 'slip-ups.' Together, we will focus on your resilience and ability to overcome challenges.

My journey to mental healthcare

I was drawn to the field of mental healthcare through my desire to help others overcome personal struggles and lead fulfilling lives. My journey began with obtaining my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling and Substance Abuse from Pace University. From June 2013 to June 2014, I completed my clinical hours for licensure, gaining valuable experience in supporting individuals on their path to well-being.

My goals for you

My goal as your therapist is to help you reach a state of strength, empowerment, self-love, and self-forgiveness. I aim to guide you in developing coping skills and fostering acceptance in a safe and nurturing environment. Together, we will work towards helping you love who you are and build the resilience needed to navigate life's challenges.

My first session with you

During our first session, we will focus on understanding your unique needs, concerns, and goals for therapy. This will be an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin building a trusting therapeutic relationship. I will listen attentively to your story, offering empathy and support, as we collaboratively develop a plan tailored to your specific situation and objectives.
