Hi there, I'm Annmarie!

HI! My name is Annmarie Amlick, and I'm a licensed mental health counselor practicing telehealth in the state of New York. I work with adults and specialize in treating anxiety, depression, and relationship issues, using client centered, insight oriented, and cognitive behavioral therapy.

My approach

I use client centered approaches to help you feel unconditionally accepted within the therapy relationship. Within this framework, we can work together to help you gain insights into the thoughts, behaviors and relational patterns that may be no longer be working for you. Once these are identified, I utilize cognitive behavioral techniques to help challenge and change unhelpful patterns of thoughts and behaviors.

My focus

Though I have many years of experience working with clients with a variety of issues, I feel my therapeutic style works best with adults who are struggling with concerns related to self esteem, anxiety, parenting and relationship issues. We all struggle with these problems to varying degrees, but it's easy to get stuck in patterns of maladaptive thinking that leave us feeling frustrated and unhappy. I enjoy helping clients sift through these thoughts and make discoveries that help propel them towards change and self acceptance.

My communication style

I strive for sessions with me feel more like a conversation than a monologue. I'm warm and accepting, but can also be direct and will give you feedback if I think it's helpful in the moment. I like to use humor when appropriate to create a relaxed environment where my clients feel safe and heard.

My journey to mental healthcare

I've always been interested in what drives people to become who they are. This interest was reinforced by more formal study in both undergrad and graduate school, and I feel lucky to still enjoy learning what makes people their unique selves and helping them work towards greater happiness and fulfillment.

My goals for you

Sometimes goals are clear from the beginning, but sometimes may take time to develop. Some even change over time. My approach to goal setting is to work together to define what is more important to you. I never want anyone to feel that they are working towards what I think they need, rather than what will help them be happier and more fulfilled in their lives.

My first session with you

During our first session I'll spend the time getting to know you and what you're seeking from therapy. I'll ask a lot of questions to get a better idea of how you've been feeling recently and what may have led to those feelings, along with any details from your past that you're comfortable sharing which might be relevant. I'm also happy to answer any questions you may have about our work together. The first session is mainly an opportunity to get to know one another and make sure my approach is a good fit for your needs.
