My journey to therapy
Many of us choose this profession because we ourselves or someone we know has struggled with a mental health issue. I am not alone in disclosing that as a young adult, I too struggled with depression and crippling anxiety. The professional I had the privilege of working with was kind and compassionate but also challenged me when necessary. The interactions and therapy this professional provided truly impacted the trajectory of my life although I would not realize it until I was much older. This person allowed me to have my feelings but also instilled appropriate and positive ways to cope when I would retreat inward struggling with negative, intrusive thoughts. I learned that things you want in life do not come easy, especially emotional wellness. Becoming a therapist was not easy, however, I persevered. I see the good in all humans and want to be a part of helping others see that in themselves.
My goals for you
I believe goal setting is a large portion of the therapeutic process. I will work with you to develop a treatment plan to clearly identify goals and objectives. We will work to identify goals that are challenging but also achievable. Each session we will review and discuss your progress and mutually agree on the next steps.
My first session with you
I prefer to utilize the initial session to identify the primary reasons that brought you to counseling. I like to gather some historical/demographic information. I will initiate a dialogue inquiring about past and present life experiences. This will also be a time for you to ask me questions and discuss concerns regarding treatment.
