Hi there, I'm Charles!

My name is Charles A. Weinberg, LCSW/R, FAPA, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/R therapist based in New York. In the past 38+ years, I have worked with individuals, couples, adolescents, and families seeking counseling, both inline, online, and in my private and Government practices. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns, including trauma or emotional abuse, stress, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, adolescent issues, parenting problems, career challenges, and other presentations.

My approach

I use a varied approach to therapy based on the needs and presentation customized for each clientele. I have found the effective use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychoeducation with Mindfulness and Acceptance approaches. Within my 40 + years of experience as a Clinical Therapist, I have worked closely with experts in the fields of trauma, anxiety, depression, anger/irritability, grieving, personal adjustment, and more. I have honed my therapeutic skills to provide depth-oriented and thoughtful psychotherapy that aims at uncovering underlying issues that have outgrown their usefulness and contribute to maladaptive life patterns. I believe we are more than our thoughts and that psychological symptoms are attempts to communicate all the things we have previously been unable to speak.

My focus

I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns, including trauma and emotional abuse, stress, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, adolescent issues, parenting problems, career challenges, sexual identity, and other presentations. Additionally, but not exclusively, I also have worked with many first responders such as police, firefighters, EMTs, nurses, and others who have experienced or witnessed physical trauma or emotional abuse.

My communication style

My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment. In addition to dialogue, I use homework assignments to supplement therapy. Most only take up to 15 to 30 minutes and are aimed at helping us to think through our issues in between sessions.

My journey to mental healthcare

I was 19 when I was wounded in a firefight in Vietnam. When I returned home, it was a different world for me from before I was drafted. After several surgeries and my own therapies, I felt compelled to give back. Since that decision was made, I found that I can identify the needs and wants of others who are in emotional despair. As a result, I returned to college and went on to Graduate School. I have worked for the State of New York doing Forensics. I was an expert witness for the courts aimed at identifying the needs of individuals with Mental Health needs. Additionally, I gave my forensic reports to the NYS Parole Board for those coming up for parole. After retiring, I went with the Dept. of Defense, working with the wounded military and their families. In addition to my private practice, I have also taught at SUNY and Columbia Colleges. As a result, I have maximized my career in the most positive way and enjoy every encounter with my clientele.

My goals for you

My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. From the beginning, we'll work together to set goals, track your progress, and upgrade your goals as you progress.

My first session with you

During our first session, you will find me to be eager to understand the depth of your concerns. I will offer you the opportunity to express your emotional pain while giving you feedback and reflecting on your thoughts and feelings. First sessions can be stressful when you take the plunge; however, it is my goal to allow you a safe and exclusive forum for you to be comfortable.
