I am Harry Barsuk, a doctoral level Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State. I have been active in the field of counseling since 1997, and I have worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups in school, hospital, military, and community-based counseling settings. My hope as a therapist is that I can help my clients find greater levels of peace of mind and comfort in their lives. Although this may not seem possible at times, it is always possible to feel at least a little better, if not a great deal better, even in the face of the most difficult challenges.
My approach
I primarily employ cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused techniques delivered in a humanistic atmosphere of unconditional positive regard and acceptance.
My focus
I am proficient and comfortable engaging with clients of all ages. However, I prefer individual work with adults looking to better manage the difficulties they are currently facing. Such difficulties may be related to any stressful life situation, phobias, anxiety, depression, difficulty managing anger, or substance-related issues, to name a few.
My communication style
It is a given that a peaceful state of mind and a relaxed physical state of being can facilitate more positive and rewarding therapeutic experiences. Therefore, I often include and teach guided relaxation, meditation, and mindfulness practices to help my clients find greater peace and relaxation during, between, and beyond our sessions.
My first session with you
Our first session will be a basic information-gathering session where I would learn about the concerns that brought you to counseling and gain the necessary background information to formulate a plan of action. You would also have the opportunity to learn more about me and my background, get a feel for how we interact with each other, and decide if you feel comfortable moving forward with me as your counselor.
