Hello, I am Steven Gifford, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the State of Ohio. I believe that we can work together so that you can function at your highest level possible.
My approach
I believe that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help us to look at how to change behaviors to improve your life situation. I also believe that talk therapy is also a significant way to get to the results that you deserve.
My focus
I have many years of experience working with clients who have experienced depression, anxiety, addiction and alcoholism issues, relationship issues, and couples counseling.
My communication style
I am a very matter-of-fact type of therapist. I will not "sugarcoat" or cosign any unhealthy behaviors. I will not tell you what I think you should do in any situation, but I will help you to navigate the best course of action for you to live and function at your highest level possible.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have been a therapist since 1991 when I landed my first job as a chemical dependency counselor. I found that I thoroughly enjoy working with others to be a guide in their journey of wellness. I obtained my LPCC in 2007 so that I could broaden my knowledge base and work with others outside the addiction world.
My first session with you
Our initial session will be with the client talking and the therapist listening and guiding you with provoking questions to get a "feel" of where the client is, where the client wants to go, and how I, as the therapist, can help achieve those goals.
