Hi there, I'm Kari!

Hi, My name is Kari Homan Shannon, I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor, and I like to focus on the client and their needs. I have been in practice since 2007, addressing mostly depression, anxiety, PTSD, hoarding, and trauma.

My approach

My therapeutic approach is to see the person, find out what they need, and what they'd like help with, and address those issues using a myriad of techniques. I have a favored therapy, Emotional Release Therapy, which is the fastest technique I've ever found, and it utilizes the client's faith base, which I realize might not be for everyone. That being said, I have many skills and tools to teach and am equally versed in meeting you where you are with whatever you need.

My focus

My career has mostly been focused on depression, anxiety, PTSD, hoarding, and trauma. As mentioned earlier, I tend to like to get you up on your feet as quickly as possible while recognizing that each person will have their own pace and own preferences. We will do whatever you're comfortable with. I won't tell you how to live your life, but I will help you find your own answers so that you'll be better versed and more empowered going forward.

My communication style

My style is warm and inviting. I strive to make each session feel like you've spent it with a trusted friend, favorite aunt, or just someone who gets you. I'm very down-to-earth, gentle, and compassionate.

My journey to mental healthcare

I discovered therapy when I dropped out of college the first time around, became aimless, and began therapy. Very quickly, I discovered how wonderful it was to be able to help others lead better lives, so I went back to school to become a therapist, and the rest was history.

My goals for you

At the beginning of each session, I will ask: “What is on your mind, what would you like to talk about or work on for today?” I realize that you might sign up with one concern, and others might emerge, so by checking in, we’re always addressing your most pressing concern.

My first session with you

First sessions are typically spent getting to know one another, building rapport, finding out what your concerns are, getting an idea of skills that you might already possess, and building an understanding of you as a whole.
