My name is Shawn Edgington and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas and Florida. My passions are working with children, families and individuals. I specialize in Anxiety, women's issues and trauma.
My approach
I primarily use Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). It is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It's most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression, but can be useful for other mental and physical health problems.
My focus
I enjoy working with clients who are experiencing life transitions and changes, anxiety, depression and mood disorders.
My communication style
When meeting with me, I want clients to feel like they are sitting in a warm comfortable chair in a calm environment and comfortable sharing their emotions.
My journey to mental healthcare
I spent 20 plus years working with children, families and adults who were going through multiple life changing events in the foster care system. Through-out this journey I moved into a behavioral therapy position working with young children and families. I then transitioned into working with domestic violence victims (adults and children) and children who had experienced a variety of different traumas from losing a parent, to sexual abuse to emotional abuse. I currently work in private practice and I am able to bring over 25 years of experience to the therapy relationship.
My goals for you
I help the clients identify what the core roots to their concerns are and develop goals from there.
My first session with you
During the first session we work on building rapport and getting to know each other. This is a chance for me to get to know you so I can individualize the therapy for you specifically.
