Hi there, I'm Ruth!

Hi! My name is Ruth Roberts and I am licensed as a Professional Counselor (LPC). I sometimes am known as Mary, but I go by Ruth. Best Practices are the approach to therapy that I use such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), as well as other approaches. I am able to treat a variety of mental health disorders. A few have been listed such as anxiety, depression, stress management, coping skills, emotional regulation, and trauma.

My approach

The theoretical approaches to therapy are based on the evidence-based perspective of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) such as Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). I provide Interpersonal Therapy, as well.

My focus

Anxiety, Stress, Depression, Trauma and Abuse, Intimacy-related issues, anger, ADHD, family conflicts, parenting issues, self-esteem, career difficulties, Bipolar disorder, coping with life changes, addictions, foster and adoption issues, abandonment issues, Autism Spectrum disorder, body image, disordered eating, chronic pain issues, forgiveness, guilt and shame issues, Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), workplace issues, and more.

My communication style

Are you looking to change the thoughts that are not productive or helpful in your life or are you struggling with having emotions that you don't know how to control? Are your actions leaving you stuck? Then learn how to change your life by developing skills and tools with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, and/or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

My journey to mental healthcare

I began my journey in pursuing a Master's in Nutrition but began to have more of an interest in the Psychological or Counseling aspect of individuals' lives. Although this journey began over 20 years ago, I still am fascinated by how to help others improve their lives and learn to love and enjoy life again no matter what their circumstances have been in the past or are currently.

My goals for you

Goal setting is discussed with the client to elicit what changes they would like to see for themselves now and in the future.

My first session with you

During the first session, clients should expect the Therapist and the client to introduce themselves. Then the Therapist would explain the limits of confidentiality. After this, the client will discuss the reasons that they have presented to therapy. Lastly, the goals of the client would be established by the client, and then if time allows we would begin working on the set goals.
