Hi there, I'm Alan!

My name is Alan Nguyen and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Houston, Texas and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and have experience in working with individuals struggling with anxiety, stress, depression, life transitions, as well as trauma and PTSD. I believe therapy is a collaborative effort where we work together to navigate through difficult emotions, patterns, and behaviors that may be contributing to problems, and any obstacles in the way of change for the better.

My approach

I have an eclectic approach to therapy. My approach varies based on the needs of each individual, couple, or family group. My therapeutic approach is client-centered, strength-based, and solution-focused. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

My focus

My style and approach is a good fit for those who are experiencing relationship problems, family conflict, stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, coping with a chronic illness, grief, and loss of a loved one, and/or difficulty with life transitions. My goal is to provide you with tools to build upon your own abilities and strengths to work through these barriers for a more positive and healthier outcome.

My communication style

My communication style is supportive, collaborative, and assertive. I believe in clear, open, and honest communication while also considering your own individual needs. I provide a safe and judgement-free space to work through these personal challenges.

My journey to mental healthcare

What attracted me to my career as a therapist was my desire to help and support others. Everyone is faced with obstacles at some point in their lives. Sometimes these challenges bring up different emotions, or you feel “stuck” and you find yourself having a difficult time processing them. They may even be affecting your work/school, relationship, family, or day-to-day activities. I am passionate about supporting others navigate through these difficult periods.

My goals for you

I believe therapy goals are a collaborative process. In our first session, we will explore what brought you to seek therapeutic support and what you hope to achieve. I also know that the goals we set in therapy can sometimes change, which is why we will work together to assess and track your progress throughout our time together.

My first session with you

During our first session together, I will spend time getting to know you and your background and what has brought you to therapy. I will also share about my background and experience as I believe it's an important component in building a sense of trust with each other. It is important to me that we both feel comfortable with each other to support your therapeutic goals.
