Hello! My name is Debra Burns. I am a Licensed Therapist with over 3 years of experience working in various levels of mental health settings. It is my passion and privilege to walk alongside and support my clients by providing a safe and non-judgmental space, where they will feel accepted and safe so we can start processing through any emotional and mental distress that is hindering them from living a life full of peace, joy, purpose, and realizing their authentic self.
My approach
My therapy style is warm and interactive. I work collaboratively with my clients and tailor their treatments and goals that are centered on their needs. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I take a holistic and integrative approach that combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic, and rational-emotive therapies. I believe that everyone is unique so I do not approach therapy with a cookie-cutter style.
My focus
I have received specialized training in trauma, human sexuality, functional holistic nutrition, and integrative mental health therapies. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, low self-esteem, career challenges, PTSD, OCD, and ADHD. I have also helped many individuals who have experienced physical and sexual trauma as well as emotional abuse. I am EMDR trained and certified in integrative mental health therapies. I am also a board-certified registered nurse with over 20 yrs of experience.
My communication style
My goal is to listen to my clients. I want to understand my clients and their world as they experience it. I strive to provide an empathetic and nonjudgemental space so my clients experience genuine unconditional positive acceptance and develop genuine trust. I believe that safety and acceptance are a priority in a trusting therapeutic relationship. Without this foundational trust and genuine interaction, addressing challenges will be hindered and authentic change will not occur. I will work with my clients and approach goal-setting and treatment planning in a collaborative manner.
