Hi there, I'm Adrianna!

Hi, My name is Adrianna Alatorre LPC ( Licensed Professional Counselor) with training in EMDR, CBT, Mindfulness, and DBT. I have been using my craft to alleviate acute symptomology to chronic issues produced during the lifespan. This means I am apt to treat issues in young, middle, and older adults that are commonly experienced due to everyday stressors but am readily trained to address symptomology stemming from trauma and abuse. My knowledge has been attained during my tenure at psychiatric facilities to my most recent post as a therapist in private practice.

My approach

The approach I offer is eclectic meaning that from Beck's perspective of challenging irrational thinking and emotional reasoning to challenging trauma experienced in the brain through Francine Shepiro's approach of desensitization, I can offer several interventions specifically designed to heal the mind and provide the necessary skills to problem solve and find acceptance of self-love and gratitude. I provide education on the several measures used to induce calmness and management of intrusive thinking or anxiety-induced sensations. Through the development of resources and identification of stressors, the client develops skills that not only support recovery but create the ability to manage the factors that stress the mind, body, and spirit.

My focus

I work with a wide array of conditions stemming from chronic anxiety or depression to acute psychosis. Throughout my career, I have worked with mostly adults in every stage of the lifespan but do have knowledge on working with young children, adolescents, and school-age children. Much of my work has dealt with trauma stemming from physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. I also help individuals recover from the exposure to Domestic Violence seen in childhood or during a relationship. But trauma is not limited to those categories. People suffer mental health issues due to loss of health, mobility due to aging, marital issues, or death of a loved one.

My communication style

I bring openness and trust where judgment is never a factor in session. I encourage clients to be vocal about their discomfort and I invite clarification of feelings when needed. I do not fear a challenge and the emotional rainbow short of aggressiveness is to be expected. Clients are welcome to share their sadness, grief, anger, disappointment, and when the work is done joy and success. An atmosphere of safety is ensured, where the clients' pain or struggle is something to be held sacred and delicately. I always check in to see how the client is progressing and solicit feedback on stuck points.

My journey to therapy

I fell into the field of mental health through nursing. I wanted to be an ICU nurse but I became a psychiatric nurse. instead. Long Story! However, the primary reason I am here is my children. They suffer from mental health issues and developmental delays so I have witnessed the effectiveness of therapy firsthand. I know it works. It worked for me and my family. It can work for anyone who works hard. I have also seen the detriments of those that go untreated and the pain they suffer. I also genuinely care for other people. It is the love for my fellow man and woman that keeps me motivated.

My goals for you

I use a treatment planner to suggest goals however I do like direct feedback from clients because it is their roadmap that we get direction from. I am solely the copilot plotting corrections when needed.

My first session with you

I need to know the client so I do ask many questions and explain the expectations for work, assessment, and termination of therapy. I also suggest length of therapy and the limitations of privacy are explained. Questions are answered and the initial fear of being in therapy is addressed if need be. It is a commitment so I explain what is to be expected of myself and the client.
